Qualified or near qualified patent attorney job – London/Bath/Cardiff – Mechanical Engineering

Our growing Physics and Engineering Team is ready to welcome a new attorney. Whether you’re qualified or nearly qualified, it’s an opportunity to work with an inspiring range of clients in innovative sectors. To complement the mix of technical skills in our existing team we are looking for someone with a background in mechanical engineering. As well as experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications for mechanical subject-matter, the ideal candidate will also have an academic background in mechanical engineering, for example MEng or BEng in mechanical engineering or equivalent. While you’ll be a new recruit, you’ll also quickly become involved in building our firm’s future – helping to shape our client portfolio and seek out new business opportunities.

What you’ll be doing

Although there’s no such thing as a ‘typical day’ as an Abel & Imray attorney, your position will involve:

Dealing directly with clients, daily – whether it’s a laboratory-based physicist or the CEO of a global engineering brand. That means you’ll swiftly get to grips with state-of-the-art research and development currently making waves in these fields of technology. You’ll speak your clients’ language – no matter how technical. And you’ll build enduring partnerships along the way.
Drafting and prosecuting successful patent applications will make up a huge part of your role, drawing on both your legal expertise and technical knowledge.
Working closely with a number of partners. We’re truly collaborative here at Abel & Imray and teamwork involves everyone from new starters to long-established partners.
